Journaling Prompts for Sunday Resets

A Sunday Reset is a routine designed to ease you into the new week by organizing your mind and environment. There are various activities you could incorporate into your routine. From doing your laundry to going grocery shopping or taking a walk, the list of things to do is endless. The aim is to engage in a calming activity you fancy.

Because the beginning of my week is usually hectic, I like to journal beforehand. Sunday works best because I have time to relax and plan for the week ahead after service. I have discovered that setting weekly goals works best for me. Before I begin, I put on a cute robe, gather my prompt list and journaling supplies.

Why Journaling, What Are The Benefits?

Journaling is an activity that has many proven benefits. If you often feel anxious about the upcoming week or dread having to wake up on Monday morning, you’re not alone. I have observed that writing about my thoughts and feelings allows me to see them from a different lens. Here are a few ways journaling can help you.

  • You get to mindfully ease into a new week.

  • You can easily track progress and growth you’ve made.

  • It helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

  • It provides space for you to process your emotions.

Journaling Prompts for Weekly Reflection

Weekly reflection is when you set time at the end of the week to touch base with yourself. It serves as your pathway to get insight into the past week and prepare for the week to come. You get to contemplate your growth, and track what you need to improve on. Thankfully, journaling is an activity that requires no skill to begin.

First, you would need a medium to write with. This could be an empty notebook or a digital planner. The next thing is to create time to write and stick to it. A lot of people struggle with what to write and questions to ask. Here are a few journaling prompts for your Sunday Reset.

  • What lessons did I learn last week?

  • What was I grateful for last week?

  • How did I show up for myself/others last week?

  • What felt heavy last week?

  • What made me laugh last week?

  • What made me proud last week?

  • Where did I need God’s help most last week?

  • What did I feel God was showing me last week?

  • What am I choosing to let go of as I step into this new week?

  • What am I looking forward to this week?

  • How do I want to feel this week?

  • How can I treat my body well this week?

  • One thing I will do for myself this week is?

  • What verse do I want to carry into this week?

  • How can I spend more time with God this week?

Tips for Creating Your Sunday Reset Journal Routine

If you ask me, a perfect reset routine does not exist. There is no specific format to follow for your Sunday Reset. Journaling might not be your activity of choice. If you’re new to journaling or returning, below are a few tips to get you started.

  • Set the tone with your favourite playlist, and a glass of wine or a cup of tea before you start.

  • Try not to pressure yourself into journaling for hours, a few minutes works just as well.

  • Dedicate a notebook or create a template you could follow and return to weekly for your Sunday Reset.

Conclusion

Slowing down before the chaos of a new week helps you prepare better. If your Sunday Reset includes taking a nap, doing the laundry or meal prepping for the week, that’s great. The general idea is to have activities that keep you grounded and in a good head space to face the new week.

Do you have a Sunday Reset Routine? I would love to know what it looks like in the comments.
